  1. Elafonissi Beach, Elafonissi, Greece:

This is an island beach located close to Crete. You can walk to the island over the shallow water when the weather is fine. This island has a historical connection to the Greek war of Independence. This incident happened on April 24, 1824. The Ottoman soldiers slaughtered more than eight hundred Greek women and children taking refuge on the island. They were waiting for a ship to escape. A horse from the enemy side accidently waded through the shallow waters and this led to their discovery. However, you should visit this very beautiful virgin beach in your lifetime.

This is one of the cleanest beaches in the world. The only way to approach this beach is by boat from the mainland of Airlie Beach and Shute Harbor. The very fine sand can damage electronic items should it get inside them. You have to be careful about this factor. You cannot take your pet dog with you on this beach.

In the rainy season, you can see two beautiful cascading waterfalls plunging into the sea from the high cliffs.
